Express Entry Program

The Express Entry (EE) program is Canada’s immigration fast lane. The program utilizes a point based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for creating a pool of qualified candidates where selected candidates are issued invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Qualified candidates can setup an online profile under one of the following three federal immigration programs:
1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently

How the program works

The program has minimum requirements for:
  • Skilled work experience
  • Language Ability
  • Education

Selection Factors

Applicants are accessed based on:
  • Age
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Whether applicant has a valid job offer
  • English and or French language skills
  • Adaptability
These factors are part of a 100 points grid use to assess eligibility for the program. The current pass mark is 67 points.
2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
This program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.
This program is organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):
  • Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades
  • Major Group 73, maintenance, and equipment operation trades
  • Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production
  • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
  • Minor Group 632, chefs, and cooks
  • Minor Group 633, butchers, and bakers
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible applicants must:
1. Meet the required language levels for each language ability
  • Reading and Writing – CLB 4
  • Speaking and Listening – CLB 5
2. Have at least 2 years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the 5 years before applying.
3. Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the NOC, except for needing a certificate of qualification
4. Have either a
  • Valid job offers of full-time employment for a total period of at least 1 year OR
  • Certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian Provincial, territorial or federal authority
3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
This program is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent resident
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible applicants must:
1. Meet language requirement -proof of language ability through an approved test, NOC O or A = CLB 7, NOC B = CLB 5
2. Have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before applying
3. Have gained work experience by working in Canada while under temporary resident status with authorization to work
